284David BowieII"The Sounds of Silence" ->'s into a wonderfully noisy version, featuring improvisation that marks the very best "Bowie's," and, in spirit, Phish, generally. Following great composed play, hear a radical departure from the song, proper. Here, too, is a jam that is somehow both of (crazy changes and playful nature) and beyond (an expertly placed false-ending) its time. This is music for all ages. · 99 BPM

267Ya MarA fun and spirited early take on the song. Page's organ sounds like he's playing at Fenway Park and Trey's excellent soloing features a "Happy Birthday" tease. · 108 BPM

277AC/DC BagIIFast as a Fall '95 "Reba," this centerpiece "Bag" is an improvisational bonanza, showcasing truly unusual and adventurous play. A series of stop/start passages invites inventive exploration (read: Mike) before Trey lays into some seriously crazy sustain; this builds to intense soloing which somehow works to reshape the song's structure, the four then casually whipping through a fierce, fun, glasses-tinkling conclusion. · 129 BPM

270Harry HoodA "Hood" that doesn't sound like most early 90s versions. The first half is driven by powerful bass play from Mike. Then, Trey takes over with amazing riffs that sound like he never wants to stop playing. · 136 BPM
Trey teased Buried Alive in Divided Sky. Bowie contained Sounds of Silence teases in Fish’s high hat intro, and had a silent jam near the end of the jam segment. Ya Mar contained a brief Happy Birthday tease from Trey. Bag contained a Bonanza theme tease from Trey was also unusually adventurous, with three dead stops during the jam segment and uncommon dissonance. Trey briefly started Horn before Harry Hood, but abandoned it. Before Terrapin, Trey announced that Fish would be “bringing out the big, heavy artillery” for the people in Keene. The “artillery” was Fish’s new vacuum, which made its debut at this show. Fish noted that “if I bleed during this song, that’ll just be part of the effects.” Inspired by his new instrument, Fish took an exceedingly spacey solo during Terrapin, complete with ersatz wolf howls, before singing the final verse through the vacuum.
